Floors For Walls

There's an emerging trend in flooring that has nothing to do with floors. From DIYers to professionals, many fashion-forward designers are choosing to incorporate floors for walls. With advances in versatility and ease of installation, hard flooring and luxury vinyl can transform a dull wall space into an eye-catching feature. Here are three ways to adopt this trend without overdoing it.

Probably the most common occurance of this trend, floors for walls is ideal for adding interest, colour and texture to an entranceway, master bedroom or living room. With the increase in open plan living, using flooring on the wall can delineate one function of a room from the next. As shown in this stunning example, timber panelling can provide a practical transition from the ensuite to the rest of the master bedroom.

If you’re fortunate enough to have a space with built-in shelving or insets, you have a built-in opportunity to do something innovative. Adding texture to a recess can give it purpose and separate one space from another. In smaller details like shelves, you can be even more adventurous by choosing a darker more dramatic product. With multiple insets, experiment with alternating vertical and horizontal installation.

Do you have a modern bed frame with a big, open space behind it? Installing flooring on the wall behind your bed can add the design touch of a headboard without taking up additional space in the room. You could even combine the accent with a recessed wall and downlights to create a cosy, functional haven to relax in. Using light colours avoids an oppressive feel and gives your bedroom an airy, scandi vibe.
